About Us

Our Mission at Camp Agape

Camp Agape is a non-denominational, Christian-based program that supports children and families who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The trained staff and volunteers are committed to sharing the belief that through Christ there is HOPE, and will provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children to heal from the pain of grief._DSF1959

Camp Agape is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization and provides our service for free to children between seven and twelve years of age who have suffered the loss of a loved one. We pray that each child will come to know that God comforts and heals our hurting hearts, and He will carry us through the despairing times of our lives, just as He has promised!!

Our children’s summer camp program offers all the fun of a typical summer camp including; swimming, horse back riding, archery, miniature horse cart rides, etc. Our service also incorporates the group-therapy activities mentioned on our Home Page, to assist the children with their bereavement process.

Any child (ages 7-12) who has suffered the loss of a parent, sibling or grandparent  and needs grief support is welcome to attend.
134 *Camp Agape also encourages children to attend our program who have lost a parent in the war in Iraq and other countries. In the last few years we have included children from the Fort Hood Army Base who were part of the HUGSS and Gold Star Family Organization.

Aside from serving non-military children, we feel blessed to include and assist kids whose parents have made the ultimate IMG_6017sacrifice for our freedoms we have in America!  In a letter we received from the Gold Star Family Organization, it stated that “We are grateful that you not only made camp fun, but you made it a safe place for the children to be. You were careful with their emotional vulnerability as well as their physical security. We are basking in the joy of all the positive comments from the children who participated in Camp Agape for the Gold Star Family members.” Debbie Busch, HUGSS Director at Fort Hood.

Camp Agape was founded in 2000 and has operated our organization solely by volunteers who have willing hearts to help little hurting hearts. Even our licensed counselors and therapists have given generously of their time and talents toward our ministry for grieving children.  Please see our Volunteer tab for more information.
